The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Engr. Jennifer Adighije, (FNSE, FCIML, FNIEEE) has announced the successful restoration of the 450MW Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State, following its shutdown in 2023 due to gas supply and metering disputes.

Engr. Adighije made this known during a meeting with the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti where she provided an update on the company’s interventions to revive the facility.

She explained that operations at the plant were suspended after discrepancies between metering and trading points led to the withdrawal of gas supply by TotalEnergies, compounded by the accumulation of outstanding debts.

According to the NDPHC CEO, the rehabilitation of the Alaoji plant was prioritised upon her assumption of office in 2024.

“The good news is that all remedial works on the defective gas line have been completed. We have also fully settled our outstanding obligations to TotalEnergies, which has now reinstated gas supply to the plant,” she stated.

Adighije further revealed that comprehensive electromechanical rehabilitation has been carried out, resulting in the restoration of three generating units: GT1, GT22, and GT23 which are now capable of delivering approximately 375MW to the national grid.

She added that the plant is supported by robust transmission infrastructure with no significant evacuation constraints, positioning it as a reliable and strategic generation asset for grid-supplied electricity.
